SaxConvert converts a recording into a saxophone score, from an imported file or a YouTube link. You can choose between transcription, to retrieve the line as it is played, and arrangement, to obtain a more readable version that is easier to play on the saxophone. Exports are designed to be reused anywhere, in PDF, MIDI, and MusicXML formats.

Transcription consists of recovering the saxophone part that is actually played in the recording. To obtain a reliable result, the saxophone must therefore be present in the audio and clearly audible: if the sax is too masked by vocals, guitars, or effects, fidelity may be reduced. Arrangement, on the other hand, does not seek to “find” an existing saxophone part: it offers an adaptation of the piece for saxophone, reproducing the main melody and musical logic of the work as closely as possible. The aim is to produce a score that is more readable and directly usable on the saxophone, even when the original version does not contain a saxophone part.

SaxConvert works from a YouTube link or an imported audio or video file. Common formats are accepted, such as MP3, WAV, MP4, AAC, and other equivalents. This allows you to start from either a live recording or an excerpt exported from a video.

Transcription is preferable when the recording includes an identifiable saxophone line (theme, solo, chorus) and the goal is to obtain a score that is faithful to the original performance. It is particularly suitable for covers that seek to stick closely to the recorded performance. Arrangement is recommended when playing a piece on the saxophone that does not contain one, or when the sax is too discreet in the mix. It aims to produce a coherent, readable, and practical sax version based on the melody and musical cues of the piece.

SaxConvert works in two distinct ways. In transcription, the presence of a saxophone actually played in the audio is essential, and it must be clearly audible: a saxophone drowned out by vocals, guitars, or effects can greatly limit reliability. The best results come from clean sources (clear recording, balanced mix, little saturation). In arrangement mode, SaxConvert can work with a large number of songs, even if there is no saxophone in the original version: the goal is to adapt the music for saxophone by reproducing the main melody and harmonic logic of the piece as closely as possible. The quality then depends mainly on the clarity of the melody and musical structure, rather than the presence of a saxophone in the recording.

On average, it takes about two minutes to convert a piece of average complexity. The duration varies depending on the length of the file, the musical density, and the number of fast passages. In all cases, the goal is to provide a quick result that can be used immediately for saxophone playing.

The score includes staves, measures, and tempo, with a line adapted for the saxophone. In transcription, SaxConvert follows the performance as closely as possible, which is useful for analyzing or reproducing a solo. In arrangement, the output places greater emphasis on readability and playability, to facilitate learning and practice.
