PianoConvert transforms audio into piano sheet music. You can choose between two modes: transcription, to reproduce as closely as possible what is played, and arrangement, to obtain a more readable and more “pianistic” version. The result can be downloaded in PDF, MIDI, and MusicXML formats.

Transcription consists of reproducing the piano part actually played in the recording, note by note, with its rhythm and variations. To obtain a reliable result, the piano must be present in the audio and clearly audible: if the piano is drowned out in a very busy mix (drums, bass, synths, vocals) or if the source is of poor quality, the fidelity may be reduced. The arrangement does not seek to “find” an existing piano at all costs. It offers an adaptation of the piece for piano, reproducing the main melody and accompaniment as best as possible in order to obtain a version that is more readable and enjoyable to play. The goal is a coherent and usable “pianistic” score, even when the original does not contain piano or when the piano is difficult to isolate.

Transcription is preferable when the recording features a clearly identifiable piano (solo piano, dominant piano, or piano part in the foreground) and the goal is to obtain a score that is faithful to the original interpretation. It is particularly suitable for finding exactly what is being played, analyzing a passage, or replaying a performance as closely as possible. Arrangement is recommended when the goal is to play a piece on the piano that is not a piano piece, or when a track contains several instruments and a complete, readable, and playable piano version is desired. It aims to create a musical adaptation with melody and accompaniment, designed to sound natural on the piano, without depending on the presence of a piano in the original recording.

PianoConvert can convert a wide variety of songs, but the result depends on the mode selected and the quality of the source. For transcription, there must be piano actually present in the audio and it must be clearly audible: a solo piano or a piano that is prominent in the mix will give the best results, while a piano drowned out in a very dense arrangement, heavy compression, or a degraded recording can reduce fidelity. In arrangement mode, the presence of a piano in the original is not necessary, as PianoConvert creates a complete adaptation of the song for piano by capturing the main melody and a coherent accompaniment as best as possible, in order to obtain a piano score that is readable and playable, even from a multi-instrumental or vocal song. In all cases, a clean audio source and well-defined music improve the quality, but the arrangement is generally more robust when the song is loaded or the goal is to quickly play a usable piano version.

You get a score with staves, measures, and tempo. In transcription, the rendering closely follows what is played. In arrangement, the score is further optimized for reading and playing on the piano.
