The transcription aims to reproduce the bass line actually played in the song, with its rhythmic placement and variations. For the tablature and score to be reliable, the bass must be present and clearly audible in the mix; when it is confused with the bass drum or a synth bass, accuracy may be reduced. The arrangement does not seek to extract the existing bass at all costs: it creates a bass line adapted to the song, based on the melody and the harmonic/rhythmic foundation, in order to obtain a coherent and playable part. The goal is to create tablature and sheet music that are easier to use, even if the original bass is absent or difficult to isolate.

Transcription is recommended when there is a clearly identifiable bass line in the recording and the goal is to find “the real line” in order to learn the piece as it is played. It is the natural choice for analyzing a groove, a specific rhythm, or an iconic line. Arrangement is preferable when the bass is too discreet, or when the goal is to quickly obtain a playable bass part that respects the musical spirit of the piece. It is also very suitable for preparing a cover, rehearsal, or adaptation when the original audio is very busy.

When transcribing, BassConvert requires a bass line that is clearly present and audible enough to produce reliable tablature and sheet music: on some mixes, the bass may be masked by the bass drum, confused with a synth bass, or overwhelmed by compression. Clean, well-defined bass sources give the best results. In arrangement, BassConvert can be applied to a large number of songs, even when the original bass is difficult to isolate: the app then generates a coherent bass line from the melody and the harmonic/rhythmic base of the song. This is a musical adaptation designed to be played, rather than an exact reproduction of an absent or inaudible bass.

On average, conversion takes about two minutes for a piece of average complexity. The duration varies depending on the length of the file and the rhythmic complexity (syncopations, ghost notes, fast passages). The goal is to quickly provide you with a playable base, whether you use tablature, sheet music, or both.

In transcription, the rendering closely follows the original performance, which is useful for analyzing the groove.
