The theme of the hit video game Tetris is a cover of the Korobeïniki, i.e. “The peddlers”, a song of Russian origin inspired by a poem of the same name written in 1861 by Nikolai Alekseyevich Nekrassov, a very famous Russian poet during his lifetime. The Korobeïniki refer to the itinerant merchants of the time. Very soon after its publication, the song became very popular and gained the status of a Russian folk song. It was included in the theme music of the Gameboy game Tetris at the end of the 20th century and is now one of the most played video game music on the piano.
