The name of the notes on a piano keyboard.

When you look at the diagram of the piano keyboard above, you’ll notice that each section is made up of 7 white keys. And guess what? Once you reach the eighth key, the same sequence of 7 white keys starts all over again. It’s like an endless loop of musical notes!

Now, to help you find your way around these sequences, let’s take a look at the black notes. They’re there to help us find our way through this maze of keys. Concentrate on the group of two black notes. You’ll notice that just before this group, you’ll find the note C. These two black notes are like a signal on the road, telling you that you’re about to return to the beginning of the white note sequence. Use them as landmarks to help you find your way around the keyboard.

To make things even simpler, we’ve highlighted the groups of two successive black notes in red/burgundy color on the piano image above. This is an additional visual cue to help you identify the C position. C will always be the first note to the left of the group of two black notes. You can’t go wrong again!

Where to start?

For the left hand, which will play the accompaniment, we’ll use the same method as above. First, we’ll locate the first note to be played, then we’ll work on the sequence of notes that follows.

To play Baby Shark’s left-hand notes on the piano, start by placing your finger on the D note.

The notes of the left hand

So, have you identified the first note of the accompaniment, D? Yes! Let’s move on to Baby Shark’s left-hand notes on the piano. Play the whole of the following sequence of notes:

D – D# – D – D# – D – D# – D – D# – D – D# – D – D# – D – D# – D – D# – G – F – G – G# – G – F – D – F – G – F – G – G# – G – F – D – F – G – F – G – G# – G – F – E – G – A – G – C – E – D – G – C – E – D – G – C – E – D – G – C – E – D – G – C – E – D – G – C – E – G – D – E – D – E – G – G

Note: We differentiate melody from piano accompaniment because melody is like the star of the music. It’s the part that’s most easily remembered and sets the tone for the song. The accompaniment is there to support the melody. It adds sounds and rhythms that highlight the melody.

Repeat this sequence several times until you feel more comfortable.

Well done! You’ve learned to play the notes of Baby Shark on the piano with your left hand as well as your right. But there’s still the most interesting thing to do: play both hands at the same time! And that’s exactly what we’re going to do in this last part of the tutorial.

Baby Shark on the piano: play the song with both hands

Advice

Coordinating the two hands is a little difficult at first because our brain isn’t used to it. It takes a lot of practice to get the hang of it.

That’s why we’ve divided this tutorial into three parts: first we learn the right hand (for the melody), then the left hand (for the accompaniment), and finally we combine them together.

We recommend that you divide the piece into small parts (around 5 to 10 seconds) and play slowly with both hands. When it becomes easier, you can accelerate a little until you reach the normal speed of the piece. Once you’ve mastered one part, move on to the next and repeat the same exercise. Finally, when you’ve mastered playing all the parts separately, you link them together.

Here’s a final tip: pay attention to your posture and the way you place your hands on the keyboard. Keep your hands in line with your forearms and your fingers slightly curved. Don’t tense up! Avoid tensing your hands and arms too much, as this can make you feel uncomfortable and cause unnecessary tension.
